Bachelor of Science in Criminology

The field of criminology is a study of crime and the various agencies of justice as they operate and react to crime, criminals and victims. It is therefore the mission of the CRIMINOLOGY PROGRAM to provide the community with professionally competent and morally upright graduates who can deliver efficient and effective services in crime prevention, crime detection and investigation, law enforcement, and custody and rehabilitation of offenders.

Higher Education Institutions offering the criminology program are envisioned as significant educational institutions actively and continually involved in producing graduates who have the knowledge and skills in addressing the problem of criminality in the country and the competence to meet the challenge of globalization in the field of criminology.

Thus, the Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception offered Bachelor of Science in Criminology under the Criminal Justice Education and committed to provide knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to its students. The BS in Criminology takes four (4) years to complete. The students will undergo internship or on-the-job training & community immersion for 1 semester on the fourth year of the program and required to submit a case analysis as part of the practicum requirements.

A graduate of BS in Criminology needs to pass the Criminologists Licensure Examination in order to practice as a criminologist in the Philippines. The examination is given by the Board of Criminology under the supervision of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The examination covers, Criminal Jurisprudence and Procedure, Law Enforcement Administration, Correctional Administration, Criminalistics, Criminal Sociology, and Ethics and Human Relations.

A criminologist can be a professor, instructor or teacher in criminology, a law enforcement officer, a technician in dactyloscopy, ballistics, questioned document, police photography, lie detection and other aspects of crime detection, a correctional administrator, and as a counselor, expert, adviser, researcher in any government or private agency or any aspect of criminal research or project involving the causes of crime, juvenile delinquency, treatment of offenders, police operations, law enforcement administration, scientific criminal investigation or public welfare administration. read more ...
